Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player secured his initial trophy for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- number one, has had a difficult season, winning just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - led to him falling of the top ten and eventually splitting with long-term trainer his previous coach.

Currently working with his coach and Goetzke, he has steadily improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first trophy after the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface after spring of the previous year.

Success also means the Russian has secured twenty-one titles at 21 distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children at once, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six finals, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's retrieving strategy and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had prompted some to doubt if his ability to perform at the highest level was concluded.

But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and compete aggressively, supported by an enhanced service.

Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the concluding five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to force a third set.

The opponent saved four early break points in a close third set before the Russian broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Suitably, he earned victory with a point at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
