Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then found many other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; authorities are presently not informed of any harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for details.
A senior political figure said the vandalism made him without words and required to be addressed quickly.
"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
