World Series Final Game Draws 51M Viewers In the United States, Canada and Japanese Regions.

The thrilling 11-inning matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run averaged a total over 50 million spectators in the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB reported this represents the most-watched World Series Game 7 after the 1991 contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday memorable game drew over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and their digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated World Series matchup after the 2017 final game involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement over the previous finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed fourth, Game 4 was 7th, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game finished in thirteenth place.

Global Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game averaged over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – averaged over 13 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series game on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series recorded 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has seen viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Counting the opening game telecast on Univision, the complete American viewership was 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million viewers, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and the network’s strongest postseason ratings since 2017.

MLB reported that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
